Warmer Weather

Not only glaciers in Greenland are dropping into the oceans, Antartic ice sheets are also shrinking. These proofs demonstrates our Earth is turnning warmer and warmer! Snips from BBC says:

A new space-based study of Antarctica shows its ice sheet is shrinking.

Researchers used satellites to plot changes in the Earth's gravity in the Antarctic during the period 2002-2005.

Writing in the journal Science, they conclude that the continent is losing 152 cubic km of ice each year, with most loss in the west.

In recent years scientists have found other evidence that West Antarctic ice is melting, which could contribute to sea level rise.

In his contribution to a recent report on climate change, the director of the British Antarctic Survey, Chris Rapley, described the West Antarctic ice sheet as "a giant awakened".

But gathering comprehensive data on both the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets has not been straightforward, and studies have produced apparently contradictory results, with some indicating a loss of ice and others that sheets are thickening. (link)

Washington post report said:The Antarctic ice sheet is losing as much as 36 cubic miles of ice a year in a trend that scientists link to global warming, according to a new paper that provides the first evidence that the sheet's total mass is shrinking significantly. So it's no reason to not worry about Global Warming.

How do they steal your Maybank account password?

Thanks for my friend Jay Carmen, she forwarded to this message (see below) to me. Thanks also goes for the person who filed this useful information! For all, don't easily believe those solicited emails to leak your confidential finance information. Damn phishing!

Hey guys …

I got something to share ….
Alrite. ..

I got this mail this morning in my Yahoo mailbox, titled “Please verify”. [I have attached it, scroll all the way down to se
e it.]

In it there’s a URL link to

If you click on that, it will bring you to a fake Maybank2U web page. See screen shot below:

If you key in your username and password in there, then they(the internet criminals) will have your username and password. And they will be able to withdraw your $$, yup there’s a second layer security called TAC no. for maybank2u users, but it can still be vulnerable to fraud if they already got your username/password..

The bottom line is, if you see such emails asking you to verify your account, just delete them.
Banks never do online verification that way. This is not new; it is called the “phishing technique”.

If you are interested to know more about the phishing technique …
read this: http://www.honeynet.org/papers/phishing/ Be smart, stay smart … keep your $$ away from internet criminals.. cheers, Dan

Nick Sylvester Suspended

Nick Sylvester, one of Village Voice's editors, was suspened from his position after he fabricated a cover story published on Village Voice's website which was withdrawn by the site. Whatever fabrication will do no good for scientists, editors or many more....

The article was entitled "Do You Wanna Kiss Me?" by senior associate editor Nick Sylvester. He had claimed he met at a local bar with three TV writers who had flown in from Los Angeles to test their version of pickup techniques from Neil Strauss's book, "The Game." Strauss is the ex-New York Times music writer and biographer of porn star Jenna Jameson.

Sylvester filed this note to readers at the paper's Web site:

"I did not meet Steve Lookner in New York at Bar 151. The trip and my encounter with him, DC, and Vali did not happen as I reported, or at all. The scene was a composite of specific anecdotes shared to me primarily by the two other parties, DC and Vali; Lookner did not share or take part in these anecdotes either. I deeply regret this misinformation, and I apologize to Lookner for his distress, which I certainly never intended." (Link)

Mississippi Advances Bill to Ban Abortion

South Dakota's abortion ban bill is set to bring the US Supreme Court to re-think its 1973 decision legalizing the procedure. Will South Dakota's move cause a population explosion to the USA? Now too early to say. But at least now Missisippi also wants to pass a similar bill.

Mississippi already has some of the strictest abortion laws in the nation. It requires a 24-hour waiting period and counseling for all abortions, plus the consent of both parents for minors who seek the procedure.

A Missouri lawmaker filed similar legislation to ban abortions, as well as a measure to amend the state's constitution.

"The time has come for these decisions to be made in these deliberative bodies, not by nine men and women who wear black robes," said Republican state Sen. Jason Crowell.

The Missouri Legislature has a solid anti-abortion majority and has enacted various restrictions to the procedure. (AP via Yahoo)
